International cat lovers chip in for kitten badly burned in house fire

10/11/2012

When cat lovers from around the world saw photos on Facebook of poor little Dutchess, a kitten who was badly burned in a house fire in Saybrook, Ill., they opened up their hearts and wallets to donate $2,900 (and counting) to pay for her care. The 8-month-old tabby suffered extensive second- and third-degree burns in the fire that destroyed the home of the Jones family and killed their pit bull, Zeke. Jackie Jones was at her mother's house with her two sons when the fire broke out; her boyfriend, who was at the home, escaped with minor injuries. Dutchess wasn't expected to survive her terrible burns, but now she seems to be beating the odds. Her prognosis is good, especially with the kindness of strangers helping to pay for her care.
